SingleStore is designed for the world’s makers — SaaS builders, data leaders and architects, digital giants and global innovators — that create with data everyday. SingleStoreDB is the world’s fastest distributed SQL database for real-time applications and analytics. By combining transactional and analytical workloads within a multi-model structure, SingleStoreDB eliminates performance bottlenecks and unnecessary data movement.

The challenge: improving privacy posture to support a product-led-growth strategy

SingleStore was founded to help organizations and enterprises do the previously unthinkable: Unify transactional (OLTP) and analytical (OLAP) processing in a single, powerful data engine that delivers the ability to transact, analyze, reason and contextualize data in real time. They target developers and brands that want to create with data.

Part of SingleStore’s plan for continued growth and success is their product-led growth (PLG) strategy. In a PLG motion, the digital customer experience is paramount. Every customer interaction must be connected, intentional, and seamless to support a self-guided journey.

A PLG self-guided digital journey must include data privacy considerations. Riyaz Hyder, Vice President of Growth and Strategy at SingleStore, knew they needed a customer-facing upgrade. SingleStore’s existing legacy tool left much to be desired:

  • Clunky and time-intensive. The legacy software tool was clunky, with a challenging interface that made it difficult to make fast changes. And worse, many changes were developer-intensive, meaning routine privacy tasks were affecting developer workload queues and priorities.
  • Lacked granular data sharing permissions. The legacy tool did not have a customer-facing option to customize data sharing permissions according to specific purposes of use, like analytics or advertising. With just a blanket yes/no selection, SingleStore was unable to collect specific data sharing preferences from their customers and visitors.
  • Poor customer service. Perhaps most of all, SingleStore wanted a privacy platform that would serve as a better partner and guide in the implementation and management experience. As a multi-stakeholder team without one single person tasked with privacy, having a single customer success manager to keep the project in hand would be ideal.

Beyond closing these gaps, Riyaz envisioned a future with privacy as a true propeller of growth for the PLG strategy. “We want to deliver ‘aha! moments’ throughout the customer journey. If our users are empowered to control their data collection preferences, we can create a customer-centric experience without overstepping privacy boundaries.”

The goal was clear: identify a modern, flexible privacy software platform to support the PLG experience. The SingleStore team leveraged their network of peers to source recommendations, and heard from a few respected colleagues that Ketch would be an ideal selection. The team wasted no time in getting started.

Solution: easy-to-use consent management with dedicated customer support

‍

“The Ketch user interface is superb. Clean, self-explanatory, and built for non-technical stakeholders. We implement a lot of SaaS software at SingleStore, and it’s not always intuitive. Ketch is.”

- Jay DeGooyer, Chief Legal Officer, SingleStore

Many stakeholders were involved over the course of the Ketch implementation at SingleStore: from the web team, to lawyers, to demand generation, and infrastructure developers. At the helm of the Ketch implementation for SingleStore was Jay DeGooyer, Chief Legal Officer.

The Ketch Customer Experience Manager partnered with Jay’s team to begin deployment of Ketch Consent Management. SingleStore was excited about the opportunity to create automatic, jurisdiction-aware privacy experiences with granular customer selections for data sharing permissions.

Jay was especially impressed with the easy-to-use Ketch interface, describing the platform as truly “self-service.” As his team began the deployment process of setting up specific jurisdictions and customer-facing experiences, a few features stood out:

  • Maps to visualize how privacy experiences should differ across geography and jurisdictions
  • Customizable themes to preview customer-facing privacy experiences before going live, with granular options for colors, toggles, buttons, and more
  • Easy methods for cloning similar experiences, avoiding duplicative work, and customizing as needed

Jay was pleased with the straightforward deployment and software. “I appreciate that my team members don’t need a PhD to use the Ketch interface. The no-code interface makes it easy to get work done without relying on developers, and we don’t need to hire a professional services team.”

In addition to the ease of use, Jay appreciates the in-platform guidance for navigating the complex data privacy landscape. “We don’t have a single person responsible for privacy,” said Jay. “I rely on thought leadership from Ketch to help us navigate differences across privacy laws and deploy new jurisdictions. The Ketch customizable policy templates make sustainable compliance a reality.”

The Ketch Customer Success Manager supported weekly checkpoints and ad hoc support questions to help Alli keep the multi-stakeholder project on track all the way to go-live.

Result: customer-centric privacy experiences with plans for system integration

With Ketch, SingleStore achieved compliance quickly and reinforced the foundation of their PLG strategy, leveraging modern consent management for clear, informative user engagement.

“Ketch has been a true partner in understanding the complexity of privacy alongside our marketing goals. Working with Ketch feels like a partnership, not a one-off transaction.” says Jay. Deploying Ketch has given SingleStore a greater sense of control and understanding for how we contact visitors to our website, and how we honor their data preferences.

“We would not have been able to start our journey as a product-led growth company without Ketch. Deploying Ketch has brought our team together and provided the foundation for a connected, consented customer journey experience.”

- Riyaz Hyder, Vice President of Growth and Strategy, SingleStore

Looking forward, SingleStore is poised for growth with Ketch as a strategic partner. Soon, the SingleStore team will embark on the next phase of the project: integrations. The Ketch platform can integrate with martech systems and apps like Segment and 6sense. This will enable SingleStore to pass consent signals to essential customer data systems, informing audiences and campaigns with permissioned data.
